Alvin Eugene Thomas, 87, died Jan. 16, 2018, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1930, in St. Clair County to Hubert and Maude Thomas. He was the eighth of 10 children.
His remaining siblings are Jean Edwards (Ray) and Don Thomas (Catherine). Al is also survived by his wife of 62 years, Casey; three children, Terry Thomas (Mary), Jeff Thomas (Lynda) and Phyllis Thomas; four grandchildren, Lauren Stewart (Craig), Matt Thomas (Shondra), Rachel Morgan and Cara Thomas; and two great-grandchildren, Brantley Kate Stewart and Parker Cole Stewart.
After finishing high school, Al attended the University of Alabama, as well as Birmingham-Southern. Before receiving his degree, he enlisted in the Army in the 1950s. After the Army, Al started working in the trucking business, where he eventually began his own business, Casey Systems, which two generations of Thomases continue to run today. His main hobbies were singing and playing the guitar. His love for music could be felt by all when he sang with friends and family.
His memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Cullman on Saturday, Jan. 20. The viewing will begin at 1 p.m., and the service will start at 2 p.m. The graveside service will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in Hanceville, directly following.
