Mama Ruth was born July 24, 1920, in Hanceville to Henry and Ida Glasscock. She worked for Bellsouth in Birmingham and Ingram Poultry, retiring in 1974 to become a homemaker and caretaker for her grandchildren during the day and after school. Mama Ruth was a master in the kitchen hosting family gatherings on holidays and special occasions. Family and friends could always expect homemade donuts on Shrove Tuesday and made-from-scratch cookies at Christmas. She doted on her grandchildren, enjoying family vacations to Walt Disney World and Gulf Shores until her health made it too difficult to travel. She spent her fall Saturdays cheering for the Crimson Tide. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and crocheting blankets, scarves and hats for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Richter; sisters, Ruby Killion, Beulah Cone and Venie Stewart; brothers, Brady, Clyde, Talmadge and Louis Glasscock; and grandson-in-law, Anthony Davis.
Survivors include daughters, Suzanne (James) Shavers and Carole (Roy) Williams; grandchildren, Kristina (Pat) Kelly, Amanda Shavers-Davis, Megan Shavers, John Williams and Marie Williams; great-grandchildren, Kallista Shavers, Lillian Kelly, Colc Kelly and James Lino.
Special thanks to caregivers, Barbara Stewart, Robin Tucker, Lisa Mariano and Tina Luker.
Pallbearers will be Danny Richter, Tim Richter, Jay Page, David McLeroy, Vic Hice and Michael Lee.
