Carolyn's Story

Text size

After an wearisome struggle on this earth, Carolyn Annette Alvis, 57, fell asleep and woke up in the comforting and loving embrace of her Savior on March 4, 2017.
Carolyn was born Jan. 14, 1960, in Cullman. She was a proud graduate of the St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Birmingham, and worked as a registered nurse at the Cullman Regional Medical Center, until health forced her into early retirement. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran in Hanceville, and subscribed to The Cullman Times all of her adult life — always reading it in what she believed to be the only proper order— the obituaries first, of course.
She is survived by two sisters, Betty Freeman of Decatur and Margaret Brown (Johnny Brown) of Cullman; three brothers L.J. Alvis (Pete Alvis) of Decatur, Jim Alvis (Betty Alvis) of Cullman, and Tim Alvis (Amy Alvis) of Michie, Tenn.; her sister-in-law, Betty Alvis (widow of Charles Alvis) of Decatur; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family who will miss her.
She is greeted in heaven by her parents, J.V. and Alla Bea (Burks) Alvis; along with her three brothers, Jack, Leon and Charlie.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Moss Service Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with interment in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Pastor John Jankens officiating. Graveside services will be performed by her brother, Rev. Tim Alvis.
