Claude's Story

Claude Lee Alsbrooks Jr. passed away Sept. 7, 2017, at Albertville Nursing Home. He was born June 9, 1926, to Claude L. and Linnie Jane Alsbrooks.
He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Evelyn Alsbrooks; a brother, John Alsbrooks; and two sisters, Lorene McFillin and Ilene Wright.
He is survived by a son, Ronald Lee Alsbrooks (Marlene); a daughter, Renee Kirkbride (Bob); a grandson, Kirk Alsbrooks (Crystal); and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Raegan and Walker; and four stepchildren, Charlotte Zarzaur, Ann Reynolds (Bill), Tim Chambers (Mary), and Doug Chambers.
Mr. Alsbrooks enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 18 and served in Okinawa as a rear gunner on P-61 Black Widow fighter/bombers during World War II. He later earned a bachelor of science degree in business from Samford University. He began his career as a warehouse employee at Cosby-Hodges Milling Company in Birmingham. He was a highly respected and successful salesman and business executive and earned his way to CEO and president of Cosby-Hodges Milling Company.
After retiring, he worked diligently as a board member and fundraising chairman for Cullman Regional Medical Center. He played a major role in the growth and development of the CRMC community. He will always be remembered as a selfless worker and a gentleman of integrity.
He will be sadly missed by everyone he knew. He touched so many lives and his legacy shall continue through his children and family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Westminster Assisted Living staff, Cullman Internal Medicine, the staff at Brookdale Albertville Assisted Living, Marshall South Hospital and Albertville Nursing Home for their loving care they gave our father.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman.
