Dwight's Story

Dwight Jean Self, 73, of Cullman passed away peacefully June 15, 2017, at his home on Smith Lake, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 24, 1944, to Clarence E. and Beatrice Presley Self.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Patrick Self; brothers, Dale and DeWayne Self.
Dwight Jean was a songwriter, storyteller musician, mechanic, philosopher, problem solver and mentor. He spent his lifetime creating his own brand of "Real." Dwight was a veteran of the U.S. Army and could often be found playing country music at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2214. He was a 32-degree Mason. Most importantly, he was a believer in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Moss Service Funeral Home, Reverends Jerry Lawson and Gary Harvelle officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Valley Springs Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Pat Self; sons, Lance D. (Sandra) Self, Shannon G. (Miranda) Self; brother, Gary (Shelia) Self; grandchildren, Landon (Emily) Self, Levi, Savanna, Luke, Matthew, Logan, Maryellen, Sarah and John Patrick Self; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
