Edmund Anthony Tenbarge, 92, of Cullman passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017, at Woodland Village Health Care in Cullman. He was born in Evansville, Ind., on Oct. 16, 1924, to William and Cecelia Miller Tenbarge.
Mr. Tenbarge was a graduate of Ritz Memorial High School Class of 1943, a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II. He retired from Americold as production control manager after 44 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Cullman, where he served on the parish council, finance council, as a lector, prayer leader, communion minister, and member of the choir for 38 years. During his lifetime he was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, volunteered with the St. Vincent dePaul Society, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active supporter of the Pro Life movement. He was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren and honorary grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Tenbarge; daughter, Rebecca Ellinger (Joe) of Huntsville; sons, Rev. Timothy Tenbarge of Jasper, Ind., and William Tenbarge (Angela) of Birmingham;
grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel and Ronald Ellinger, Haley Tenbarge; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sylvester Tenbarge (Jan) of Raleigh, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Pauli Tenbarge; parents, William and Cecilia (Miller) Tenbarge; and sisters, Eugenia Schmitt (Leo), Bertha Bush (Harry), Mary Schaad (Conrad).
Funeral services for Edmund will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Sacred Heart Church, with burial in Sacred Heart Church Cemetery. Rev. Timothy Tenbarge will preside with Abbot Cletus Meagher, O.S.B., Rev. Patrick Egan, O.S.B., and Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.S.B. con-celebrating. Military honors to be conducted at gravesite by the U.S. Army, Fort Rucker.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, and one hour before services at church. Prayer services will be held at 7:30 p.m.
