Emil L. Godeke Funeral services for Mr. Emil L. Godeke, 90, of Cullman are Monday, December 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Cullman, Pastor Todd Henderson officiating, with interment in Cullman City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church.
Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Godeke passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018.
Born one of thirteen children on his family's farm on August 24, 1928 to William and Margaret Godeke in Elberfeld, Indiana. He moved to Cullman in 1967 with Bendix Westinghouse, later Americold, where he retired. He was active in the Wesley Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church in Cullman. He loved gardening, where he loved sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and family and he and Marie did a lot of canning together. You can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the boy. He was well known for his bird houses, feeders and wood working crafts. He was an avid fisherman, be it in a boat or sitting on the bank of a pond.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Anna Godeke; granddaughter, Brandi Marie Walker; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Peak Godeke; sisters, Mildred Godeke Hahn, Mabel Godeke Blythe, Elsie Godeke Foerster, Wilma Godeke Drilling, Edna Godeke Kuhlenschmidt and Evelyn Godeke Rettinger and brother, Carl Godeke.
He is survived by his sons, Ken (Robbie) Godeke of Evansville, Indiana and Randy Godeke of Jasper, Alabama; daughter, Sharon (Pell) Walker of Fairhope, Alabama; grandchildren, Caitlin Cassidy, Jamey Wood, Amy Rigsby, Pellum Walker, Sean Walker and Alex Walker; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Godeke Young of Evansville, Indiana, Dorothy Godeke Menke of Elberfeld, Indiana and Marian Godeke Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana and brothers, Ray Godeke of Elberfeld, Indiana and Harold Godeke of Evansville, Indiana.
