She was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Blount Springs to Rev. Malcolm Howell and Lou Rice Howell. She was a retired teacher. During her career, she taught at Prospect, Cold Springs, Hanceville and Hayden schools. In addition, she was an active leader in many Baptist churches and taught Sunday School for more than 70 years. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Cullman. After her retirement, she had a card ministry where she sent thousands of birthday cards along with sympathy cards and other cards for many occasions. She enjoyed quilting and hand pieced well over one hundred quilts and gave many of them to her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Sapp; sisters, Roberta Crabtree, Elizabeth Paulk, Kathleen Wallace and Lucille Bagwell.
Survivors include a brother, Malcolm Howell of Mobile; daughter, Lucille (Butch) Calvert of Warrior; son, Danny (Joy) Sapp of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; grandchildren, Corey (Sharon) Calvert, Eric Sapp and Nick Sapp; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Hanceville Funeral Home, with burial in Ricetown Cemetery in south Blount County.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
