Florence Lynch On Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, Florence Lynch passed away at age 70. Flo was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in Astoria (Queens), NY. Known as Florie by her family, she grew up on Long Island (Oakdale) where she attended Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, NY. She began her college education at Sacred Heart (Cullman College) and completed her Bachelor of Science in Education at St. Bernard in Cullman Ala. During her tenure in Alabama, she earned her Masters of Education (Special Education) from the University of Alabama Birmingham. Later, she earned another Masters of Education from Alabama A&M in Huntsville. After retiring from public schools in Alabama, she moved to Pulaski, Tenn. and taught special education in Giles County. she was beloved by students and parents alike, many of who stayed in contact with her for many years. Flo also worked summertime jobs in Cullman teaching swimming and managing the public swimming pools. She was frequently spotted keeping score or game clocks at ballgames at schools or for the park and recreation department. She loved to camp and white-water raft down raging rivers, and spend time with all her special children. She was loving and fiercely loyal to those she loved.
Flo was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Francis and Rita Ward Lynch.
She is survived by her brother, Thomas Robert Lynch of Riverbed, NY; niece, Erin Russell of Omaha, NE; and many cousins. She is also survived by her "adopted" family, Barbra Rasplicka of Cullman; Scott (Melissa) Rasplicka and children Merideth and Erickson, all of Savannah, GA.
Flo loved traveling almost as much as she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She courageously fought cancer for 39 years, never complaining or surrendering. She was an inspiration for all who knew her.
Visitation will be Friday, October 5 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Carr and Erwin Funeral Home, 1228 East College Street, Pulaski, Tenn. This will be followed by a memorial service led by Father Joseph Mundakal on Friday, Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22 Berger Street, Lawrenceburg, Tenn. A private family service will be held at a later time. Flowers may be sent to the church or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (caner.org), the Girl Scouts of America (110 Pipemakers Circle, Suite 116, Pooler, GA 31322), or the Boy Scouts of America (11900 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31419) in her memory.
