Dr. Heather Jean Sobko, PhD, RN, APRN, CRRP, 54, formerly of Hoover, Ala., recently of Salt Lake City, Utah, died suddenly of heart failure, on Oct. 13, 2017.
Dr. Sobko received her Graduate Nursing Degree from the UAB School of Nursing in Birmingham. She was Vice President and CMIO of Survivor Health Care, Salt Lake City Utah. She also was a Professor of Nursing Informatics Specialty Programs at the University of Utah College of Nursing; and an Adjunct Faculty Member of the University of Illinois at Chicago. She was founder of Interactive Health Robots (I-HEROS) as well. She served on many professional committees; the Institutional Bio-safety Committee of Southern Research Institute and was Chair of the AMIA Membership Committee and Chair of the NIWG Membership Committee.
Dr. Sobko is survived by her parents, Edward and Barbara Sobko; sister, Leslie Allison Sobko; of Crane Hill, Alabama; uncles, Patrick William Coffey (Jennifer) of Afton, Virginia, and Joseph Sobko (Angela "Aunt Chick") of Factoryville, Pa.; a myriad of cousins and friends, along with her loyal and faithful companions, her horse, Dutch, and her Doberman Pinscher, Patronis. Arrangements have not been finalized, however, there will be a celebration of her life at a later date.
The Sobko family thanks all the friends and relatives who have given us warm and caring messages. Rest assured Heather loved each of you in her special way, and we are comforted and grateful by your outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. To honor her life so that she will live on in perpetuity, a scholarship in Heather's name is being created at the UAB School of Nursing.
