Helen Laney Netherton, 90, of the Nesmith community, entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018.
Helen was born on June 29, 1927, in Cullman County, Alabama. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church for 54 years. Prior to her marriage, she was a tele-phone operator at South Bell.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 23, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3344 County Road 45, Addison, in the Nesmith community, where services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Pastor Scott Guthery, Eric Hudson, Wayne Netherton, and Pastor Steton Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons, David Glenn Netherton and Anthony (Teresa) Wayne Netherton; daughters, Sandra (Harold) Hudson, Shelia (George) Welch, and Sherry (Terry) Morgan; sister, Wanda McAlpine; she was "Granny" to 11 grandchildren, Sheree Acheson, Brad Netherton, Eric and Jeremie Hudson, Chanda Dabbs, Charity Guthery, Brandon Netherton, Brittney Guffey, Steton and Spencer Hayes, Sheena Johnson: and 27 great-grandchildren, Sam, Joshua, Mikaela, and Daniel Netherton, Savannah, Michael, Brantley and Emma Hudson, Logan, Samuel, Isaac, Casey, Caleb, AnnaBeth, and Parker Guthery, Anna Grace and Dalton Dabbs, Kaylee, Kelsey, and Bhrenley Netherton, McKinley King, Briley, Henley and Hadden Hayes, Kenshin Morgan, Amos and Ezra Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Gilbert "Odell" Netherton; parents, Johnny and Minnie Laney; sisters, Marie Starnes, Jewel Anderson; and brother, Cecil Laney.
