James Richard Driver of Cullman died Feb. 16, 2018. He was born Aug. 9, 1954, in Cullman.
Preceding him in death were maternal grandparents, George and Elon Bell Wilkins of Fairview; and paternal grandparents, Ruth and Roy Driver of Cullman; parents, Lila O'Dell Wilkins Driver and Leldon Eugene Driver of Cullman; and by older brother, Gene Driver.
Survivors include George Arno Driver of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Lila Sexton; and brother-in-law, Ken Baker; nephew, Toby Sexton (Ruby); great-nephews, Dakota and Camryn Sexton, all of Ellaville, Ga.; niece, Melanie Liles (Bryant); and great-niece, Hannah of Oregon.
James attended school in Sanford, Fla., where he played football. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1971, where he earned his Parachute Badge and served with the 82nd Airborne Unit out of Fort Bragg, N.C., during the Vietnam era. He worked with the Army Corp of Engineers in Huntsville, and later ran his own carpentry business until a work-related accident ended his work career.
James was a talented musician, writing and performing his own music, and he loved to cook. He never met a stranger, and always tried to help those less fortunate.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. March 17, at the Andersonville National Park and Cemetery, in Andersonville, Ga.
