James Douglas Pirkle was born June 17, 1942, in Jefferson County, Tenn., to Hubert and Vernice Oliver Pirkle. He grew up in the Upshaw community, north of Addison, Ala. He attended Addison High School. James served in the U.S Army from 1961 to 1964, stationed two years in Germany. He retired from Hartselle utilities with 28 years of service. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Vinemont.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ravanell Pirkle; and brother, Leroy Pirkle.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ireta Dale White Pirkle; daughter, Katherine Evon (Nicky) McCurley; son, James Douglas "Jimmy Jr." (Carla) Pirkle; grandson, Garrett Kimbell McCurley; and stepgrandson, Mason Douglas Gamble.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday July 26, at Moss Service Funeral Home. The family will celebrate Mr. Pirkle's life at 11 a.m. with burial to follow in Cullman City Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
