Jim Miller Sr., 82, died quietly Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at his residence surrounded by those he loved most, his family. Born on June 9, l934, in Cullman, to Arthur and Willie Patterson Miller. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserve. Jim married Arweeda Winnie Patterson on Dec. 23, 1962. He was employed in building material sales and spent much of his life as a home building contractor, owning his own business. He won several national sales awards. He was a longtime active member and former president of the Homebuilders Association as well as the Kidney Association. Jim enjoyed the outdoors and was a recreational pilot. He enjoyed going to the Wellness Center, always supporting and cheering for the New Orleans Saints and being with his grandchildren. He grew up Catholic, but was active in The Orchard in more recent years until his health failed.
A service celebrating his life was held at 2 p.m. Monday Feb. 6, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors, Dr. Bryan Collier, Bro. Will Rambo and Bro. Andy Black officiated. Burial followed in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Winnie Miller of Tupelo; three sons, Stan Miller of Fulton, Kevin Miller (Shannon) of Corinth and Mike Miller of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Lowgen, Braxton, Cole, Conner and Raylin Miller; brother, Buzzy Miller (Nel) of Arkansas; brother-in-law, Jimmy Addington of Ecru; two sisters-in-law, Sherron Miller and Muriel Miller, both of Cullman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other near relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Marc Miller, Ed Miller (Mary) and Yoyo Miller.
Pallbearers were Stan Miller, Kevin Miller, Dennis Miller, Lowgen Miller and Jimmy Addington.
