Melvin Lee Davis
Melvin Lee Davis, 73, of the West Point community in Cullman, Alabama passed away at his home on Sunday, February 19, 2017. He was born on January 8, 1944 to Hershel Lee Davis and Rhoda Green Davis in the Greenhill community of Lauderdale County, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Carmon Davis. He was also preceded in death by beloved family members, Ferrell and Betty Blackwood, Franklin Trousdale, Bob Lyell, Randy Blackwood and Patsy Blackwood Doherty.
Mr. Davis retired from Loparex, Inc. in Cullman, Alabama. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He thoroughly enjoyed life and he always tried to make people laugh, even in his final days. One of his favorite sayings was, "People have more fun than anybody." He was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and a member of Bethlehem West Baptist Church for 45 years. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Navy as an airman on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Roosevelt aircraft carrier from 1962 to 1966.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rebecca Blackwood Davis; a brother, Phillip (Shelia) Davis; sisters, Shelby Jean Davis Trousdale and Sandra Davis Lyell; a sister-in-law, Clara Davis; and a brother-in-law, Ron (Teresa) Blackwood. Melvin was also blessed by a host of Nieces, Nephews, extended family and friends whom he loved with all his heart. He always told each one of them that they were his favorite and he meant it.
Funeral services will be held at Bethlehem West Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. He will lie-in-state from 12:00 until 2:00. The family will also receive visitors at the church on Tuesday, evening from 6:00 until 8:00. Interment will be at the church cemetery immediately following the service, with Brother Shane Wheeler and Brother Jerry Lake officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews.

The family would like to extend special gratitude to the staff of Alacare Home Health and Alacare Hospice; Dr. Elliott, Mandy, Blair, Stephanie, Jeremy and Tammy who helped us shower Melvin with love in his final months. We also like to acknowledge our families, friends, BWBC Church family and his Chesley Oaks golf buddies for every act of kindness shown to us. You helped make his final days a wonderful blessing. His oncologist, Dr. Allen Yeilding, and staff at HOAA were amazing.
