Nell Florence Culpepper Baker, 90, of Tallahassee, Fla., passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family.
A daughter of the late Thomas Perry and Nettie Hyatt Culpepper, she was born in Cullman, April 20, 1927. Nell attended Auburn and then joined the U.S. Army, where she met her husband, "Baker" of 55 years before being widowed in 2005. Strong, hardworking and adventurous, she enjoyed traveling and was proud of her service in the military. Nell was a longtime Tallahassee Realtor and member of Grace Church. She loved the Lord and was committed to her beliefs. She taught Sunday school throughout the years and was deeply dedicated to the study of God's Word. Her legacy is one of faith, centered in love.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gene W. Baker; and her siblings, Perry Culpepper, Alice Werner and Margeurite Davis.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Jerry) Johnston, Cathy (Mike) Scaringe; grandchildren, Stephen Scaringe, Jonathan Scaringe, Alexandra Scaringe, Samantha Scaringe and Kristopher Reed; and siblings, Horace Culpepper and Hannah Brock.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Abbey Funeral Home, with interment following in Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:15 a.m. until the funeral hour.
