Ray O'neal Gentry


Ray O'Neal Gentry of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., formerly of Cullman, Ala. died April 28, 2019 at his residence. Ray O'Neal was born October 16, 1934 to CB and Ruby Gentry. Ray O'Neal attended West Point High School. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1958 serving at Wiesbaden Air Base, Wiesbaden, Germany. While in Germany he met and married Helga Lonser. Ray O'Neal transferred to Washington, DC in 1958 and was assigned to President John F. Kennedy's Security and Honor Guard. Following his military service he was owner of the House of Typewriters in Kennesaw, Ga. for 37 years. He was a generous man, involved in community affairs.
Ray O'Neal was preceded in death by his wife, Helga Lonser Gentry; parents, CB and Ruby Gentry; and a brother, Glenn Hollis Gentry. He is father to Nancy (Steve) Squire of San Antonio, Texas, Patti (Matt) Parman of Orlando, Fla. and Tina Farber of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Tiffany (Michael) DeVotie, Ian (Kristen) Brookmire, Melina Parman, Dante' Parman, Xandra Squire and Falon Squire; great-grandchildren, Colby DeVotie, Harley DeVotie, Brayden Brookmire and Blakely Brookmire. He is survived by sister-in-law, Yvonne Gentry; sister, Martha Faye (Jerry) Smith; brother, Roger (Brenda) Gentry; and sister, Beverly (Doc) Abercrombie. Mr. Gentry will be interred next to his wife in Kennesaw, Ga.
