Sister Bertha's Story
Sister Bertha True, O.S.B., 89, a Benedictine Sister of Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman, died Jan. 30, 2017, at the monastery.
Reception of the body with vespers will be prayed at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel in Cullman, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, Rev. Marcus Voss, O.S.B., presiding, with interment following in the monastery cemetery.
Sister Bertha was born in 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio, to Benjamin N. True Sr. and Minerva T. Cross True. In 1951, she entered the Benedictine Sisters in Cullman and made her Perpetual Monastic Profession in 1955.
Sister Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; and by her brothers, Benjamin N. True Jr. and William B. True.
Survivors include her Benedictine Sisters; her sister, Sarah True Kresse; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family, and many devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Cullman, 916 Convent Rd., Cullman, AL 35055.
