Wilma's Story

Wilma Imogene Martin Hicks passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017, in Tuscaloosa, AL. She was 83 years old.

A lifetime resident of Addison, AL, Mrs. Hicks was born on October 10, 1933, to Oliver and Mae Martin. She graduated from Addison High School in 1951, and went on to earn a Master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She taught third grade at Addison Elementary for thirty years. She was married for fifty-six years to Coach A.G. Hicks.

Mrs. Hicks loved watching Wheel Of Fortune and Crimson Tide Football, spending time with and cooking for her family, and going on outings with her Sunday School class. She was a member of Addison First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Trisha (Ric) Turner of Tuscaloosa and Sandy (Creig) Bell of Addison; brothers, Edsel (Dale) Martin, Windle Martin and Willie Ray Martin; sisters, Betty (Jimmy) Box and Linda (Tom) Woody; grandson, Spencer (Ashlynne) Bell of Huntsville; granddaughters, Gracie (Scott) Flynn and Katie Bell Cantrell, both of Addison, and Brittany Denton of Tuscaloosa; and great-grandchildren, Meri Kayte and Scout Flynn; Kash Cantrell; Cruce, Cannon, and Charlotte Bell; and Turner Denton; special relatives, Violet Wilkins and Rita Bartlett; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Coach A.G. Hicks; and parents, Oliver and Mae Martin.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 9, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and funeral services will be Monday, April 10, at 3:00 pm, all at Addison First Baptist.
