Betty Evans's Story

Graveside services for Betty Evans Waters, 91, of Hanceville are at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at Hopewell Cemetery. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 19.
Betty was born of immigrant parents on Sept. 30, 1925, in Mingo Junction, Ohio. She was a graduate of the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in Steubenville, Ohio. A veteran, she served as an Air Force flight nurse during and following the Korean war. During the war, Betty made over 40 flights from Korea and Japan, bringing back wounded servicemen to the United States. Following the war, Mrs. Waters spent 20 years as a nursing supervisor at the Hanceville Nursing Home. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Hanceville and taught Sunday School there for several years.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Robert "Bob" Waters; one daughter, Crystal (Dwayne) Hood; three grandchildren, Rob, John and Kate Hood of Cullman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Evans; three brothers; and two sisters.
In lieu of visitation, the family asks that you visit her husband, Robert, at Morningside Assisted Living in Cullman.
