Billie Joe Schmale, 75, of Cullman passed away at his residence March 29, 2017, after fighting a long battle with cancer. B.J. was a graduate of Cullman High School. He attended Auburn University and graduated from St. Bernard College, where he earned a bachelors in mathematics. Billie was employed with Monsanto (Solutia) in Decatur for 35 years in Textile research and management. He was a longtime member of St. John's Church. He also enjoyed making large gardens, watching Auburn Football with his friends, and playing bridge with his brother and friends.
Mr. Schmale was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Josephine Mahler Schmale; and a nephew, Jeff Schmale.
Survivors include his Wife, Edna Taylor Schmale; a son, Brett Alan Schmale of Cullman; daughter, Dr. Lea (Josh) Hall of Terre Haute, Ind.; granddaughter, Emma Taylor Hall; brother, Roy (Sandra) Schmale of Cullman; niece, Andrea (Jimi) Crooks of Chattanooga, Tenn.; nephew, Gordon Battles of Cullman; and several cousins and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
