Josephine 'Jo''s Story
Josephine Evans Kinney, 88, was a devout Christian. Jo was a devoted wife of 61 years, mother and grandmother, and loved by all who knew her. She had a passion and flare for entertaining and decorating for holidays and special occasions. Jo was a wonderful homemaker and loved to cook, sew and quilt for her family and friends. She was a member and officer of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the 91 Homemakers Club. She loved to laugh and spend time with her family and always put them first.
She died March 18, 2017.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas John Kinney Sr.; her parents, Lewis Cleveland Evans Sr. and Ethel Pichelmayer Evans; her brothers, Lewis C. Evans Jr. and Merchon B. Evans; her sister, Wiell Evans Day; and her great-granddaughter, Emma Jordan Davis.
Survivors include her son, Thomas John (Nadine) Kinney Jr. of Cullman; daughter, Katherine Kinney (Jim) Kidd of Birmingham; four grandchildren, Christopher (Amanda) Kinney of Richmond, Va., Brandi Davis of Birmingham, Christopher (Katy) Merritt of Westland, Mich., and James (Andrea) Kidd IV of Birmingham; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Daniel Evans, Billy Evans and Paul Evans; and sisters, Johnnie Carter, Glynda Gorham and Diana Harris.
A special "thank you" to Shirley Smith who cared for Jo over the past two years. Shirley was not only a trusted friend, but also became a part of our family.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 23, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with a rosary following. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, Father Patrick Egan, O.S.B. officiating, with private interment in the Catholic cemetery for immediate family.
Cullman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to VFW Post 2214 of Cullman (112 Veteran Dr. SW, Cullman, AL 35055).
