Funeral services for Malcolm James 'Jim' McElveen, 76, of Cullman, will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017, 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Patrick Eagan officiating, with internment in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Moss Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McElveen passed away Friday, March 10, 2017, at Cullman Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his family, friends and Fr Patrick Egan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Virginia Riera McElveen.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Frances Sachs McElveen; his daughters: Victoria McElveen (Ricky) Isbell and Veronica McElveen; granddaughter, Mallory (Will) Roberson; and great-grandson, Karter Roberson.
Mr. McElveen was a was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a 1962 graduate of St Bernard College. He served in the U.S. Navy at Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was also served on the USS Glacier at McMurdo Sound in Antarctica. He was branch manager of the Cullman Social Security Office and retired after 32 years in 1995. Up until last month, he still met with his former employees for their monthly 'old folks luncheons', as they affectionately called their visits.
In honor of his extremely patriotic spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to: VFW Flag Fund, Post 2214, 112 Veterans Drive SW, Cullman, AL 35055
Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Tuesday, March 14 at 6 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m.
