Alfred Jennings 'A.J.' Richards Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Alfred Jennings "A.J." Richards, 83, of Curry, Ala., met his Jesus Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, peacefully, at his home. He was a longtime member and chairman of the deacons for many years of Mt. Joy Baptist Church in Curry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Metro Richards and Ophelia Hannah Richards; and brothers, James Chandler Richards and Neal Douglas Richards. He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Mildred Williamson Richards; sister, Zelona Materna of Edinburg, Va.; five daughters, Gwen (Donald) Rice of Sumiton, Janice (Larry) Moore of Berry, Kathy Harbin of Curry, Freda (Dennis) Ivey of Jasper and Fawn (Carlton) Allred of Terrell, N.C., a son, Alfred (Julie) Richards of Curry; 14 grandchildren, Audrea (Tracy) Robbins, Andy (Lacy) Rice, Aonya (Rob) Gray, Chrisynda (Sam) Price, Sandahlyn (Alan) Wiggins, Amy (Pat) Prestridge, Brad (Keri) Harbin, Nancy (Chris) Megginson, Nathan Ivey, Josh (Laurie) Allred, Jesse (Brittany) Allred, Heather (Casey) Woods, Adrianne Richards and Heath Richards; 20 great-grandchildren; a nephew; and seven nieces. Mr. A.J. Richards, with his wife and family, owned and operated Richards' Clearwater Marina on Smith Lake for 44 years. He battled Alzheimers for almost eight years. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons-in-law. The family would like to thank Tammy Davidson and Sharon Clark for their loving caregiving. Also, we would like to show our appreciation to Alacare Hospice of Jasper for their special care given to our dad and mom by April Hamilton and the genuine love from Angie Slate. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Mt. Joy Baptist Church. He will lie in state from 2:2 to 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Friday, Dec. 6.
