Cullman - James E. Pattillo of Fenton, Michigan, formerly of Cullman, Alabama, 90, died peacefully at home on Sunday, May 24, 2026. A funeral service with full military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

James was born on June 4, 1935, in Cullman, to the late Burtis and Lillie Belle (Bennett) Pattillo.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he proudly and honorably served as a military policeman. On October 22, 1960, James married Joann Thomas in Cullman, and they shared 65 years of love and companionship before Joann's passing on February 20, 2026.

A dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life, James spent many years building a career he took great pride in. He worked at Buick for 16 years and co-owned Jim's Transmission for 25 years until his retirement.

James had a lifelong love for classic cars and enjoyed attending car shows. He was never one to sit still and could often be found taking pride in caring for his lawn. Affectionately known as "Papa" and "Bucky" by many who loved him, he was dependable, kindhearted and always willing to lend a hand. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy

Survivovrs include his son, Dale (Sandi) Pattillo; grandchildren, Morgan (Patrick) Hayes, Ryan (Crystal) Pattillo and Max Pattillo; great-grandson, Mason Pattillo; step-grandson, Ryan (Nadia) Terry; step-great-granddaughter, Ava Terry; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Judy) Thomas; and many other loving family members and dear friends.
