James Larry Thomas Obituary

West Point - James Larry Thomas was born on July 26, 1944, in Blount County, Alabama, and spent his formative years in West Point, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; son, Charles Thomas, Sr.; father, Fred Thomas; and mother, Ethelene Thomas Livingston.

Larry was a respected member of the Roopville, Georgia community and actively participated in Unity Baptist Church in Roosterville. His early experiences working on his family farm fostered a strong sense of responsibility, which carried through into his varied professional life. He was self-employed in several occupations, including serving as an Over-the-Road truck driver, carpenter, home builder, and owner/operator of Thomas Grocery in Palmetto, Georgia.

Larry served in the Vietnam War and was recognized for his service with a Bronze Star, awarded by the U.S. Army. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, reflecting his dedication and bravery. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, his passion for fishing was a source of joy and camaraderie throughout his life.

Larry is survived by his son, Lee Bryan Thomas and his wife, of Austin, Texas; his sisters, Joan Mitchell of Huntsville, Alabama, Myrion Prickett, and Peggy her husband Paul Lassanske of Summerville, South Carolina; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held February 9, 2026 at Stutts Funeral Home. Interment followed the service in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
