Fenton, Michigan - Joann Pattillo (Thomas) of Fenton, Michigan, formerly of Cullman, Alabama, age 86, died peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Honoring her wishes, cremation will be taking place. A private Celebration of Joann's Life will be held at a later date. Joann was born on February 3, 1940, in Cullman, Alabama. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1959 and later attended the nursing program at Mott College. On October 22, 1960, she married James E. "Bucky" Pattillo in Cullman, and they shared 65 years of love and companionship. Joann had a gift for finding treasures wherever she went, especially at thrift stores and garage sales, and she loved collecting the antiques she discovered along the way. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and tending to her garden - often chasing her great-grandchildren around it. Affectionately known as "Nana" to many who loved her, she had a gentle way of making everyone feel cared for as if they were her own, offering laughter, comfort, and a love that felt like home. Quick-witted and funny, she also had a kind and generous soul that showed in everything she did. A true master of Southern cooking, she expressed her love through the meals she prepared and her perfectly brewed sweet tea. Above all, she was an amazing wife and mother who treasured time spent with her loved ones, especially moments shared with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are: Husband, James Pattillo; Son, Dale (Sandi) Pattillo; Grandchildren: Morgan (Patrick) Hayes, Ryan (Crystal) Pattillo, and Max Pattillo; Great grandson, Mason Pattillo; Brother, Jimmy (Judy) Thomas; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Joann was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Owdie, and her Aunt Mae & Uncle Arnold who lovingly helped raise her at a young age after the death of her mother.
