John Paul "J.P." Stubbs of Morris went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, August 9, 2012. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and a World War II veteran serving in Italy with Co. D 752nd Tank BN. He earned the EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal. J.P. was retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education with 71 years of service, and he was known as the "Ticket Man" at Mortimer Jordan High School for football, basketball and other sports. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Yvonne "Sweetie" Stubbs; son, Timothy Paul Stubbs; daughters, K. Gayle (Gordon) Vogel, Janice (Michael) Cox, Paulette Weston, Bennie Speigle and Charlotte (Charles) Hopkins; grandsons, Gabriel (Marissa) Cox, Todd Vogel and Mark (Niki) Vogel; granddaughters, Jennifer Futato, Jane (Danny) Rothe, Leah Cox, Joan (Matt) Snow and Elizabeth (Michael) Cornett; five great-grandchildren; brother, Pate (Juanita) Stubbs; sisters, Jenette Bain, Lou James and Sarah Grigsby. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2012 at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel with burial in Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
