Sister Virginia Rohling Obituary

Cullman, AL - Sister Virginia Rohling, O.S.B., a Benedictine Sister of Sacred Heart Monastery in Cullman, AL, died peacefully at the monastery on February 19, at the age of 89.

Reception of the Body with Vespers of the Dead will be at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, followed by visitation until 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, February 23, at 10 a.m., with burial in the monastery cemetery to follow. All liturgies and visitation will be held in Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel, 916 Convent Rd., Cullman.

Sister Virginia, the daughter of Albert Henry and Elizabeth Mary Rohling, was born in 1937 in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1955, she entered Sacred Heart Monastery and made perpetual monastic profession in 1960. Her many years of ministry included education, pastoral ministry, and two terms as prioress of the Benedictine Sisters.

Sister Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Albert H. Rohling, Jr. Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Rohling Hawkins (Blake) and Juliana Rohling White (Fred); a sister-in-law, Mary Lea Rohling; nephews, nieces and extended family; and her community of Benedictine Sisters.
